Albright Named 11th LLNL Director

Penrose “Parney” C. Albright was named the 11th director of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory by Norman J. Pattiz, chairman of Lawrence Livermore National Security, which manages the lab for the US Department of Energy.

The appointment will take effect Dec. 1; Albright will serve also as LLNS president.

Appointed with the concurrence of the DoE, Albright will replace George Miller, who is stepping down after a 40-year career at the lab, including six years as director. Albright was selected after a nationwide search that began in June.

With more than 20 years of experience in the federal government and the private sector, he joined the lab in 2009 as principal associate director of Global Security, a program that applies science and technology to counterterrorism, nonproliferation, defense, intelligence and energy.
