FDA Approves Summit's Excimer Workstation for LASIK
WALTHAM, Mass., Oct. 25 -- Summit Technology Inc. reported that the US Food and Drug Administration has approved the company's Apex Plus Excimer Laser Workstation for the LASIK treatment of myopia with or without astigmatism. The approval covers the correction of myopia from 0 diopters to -14 D, with or without astigmatism in the range of -0.5 D to -5 D.
This is an industry milestone, said Robert J. Palmisano, Summit Technology's CEO. Today, more than 80 percent of all laser vision correction procedures are LASIK procedures and that number continues to grow. I am very pleased that Summit is now the leading company, as the first manufacturer with LASIK approval in the United States.
