Sony Facility to Make LED Streetlights

Sony’s Pencoed, Wales, facility has been selected to manufacture energy-efficient LED streetlighting systems for the UK and Europe. The Sony UK Technology Centre has been working with Canada-based LED Roadway Lighting Ltd. (LRL), a maker of low-carbon, energy-efficient lighting systems, to set up a manufacturing line. LRL said that it chose to target the UK and Europe because of their massive potential market – the UK alone has 6 million streetlighting units. The Welsh facility has received a first order for 2000 fittings and expects to receive another for 26,000 soon.
