Companies Extend OLED Partnership
Universal Display Corp. of Ewing, N.J., and PPG Industries of Pittsburgh have entered into a new organic LED (OLED) materials supply and service agreement under which PPG will remain the exclusive manufacturer of Universal Display’s phosphorescent OLED materials. The contract will replace their current OLED materials supply and service agreement. Terms of the new agreement, which is substantially similar to the previous one, run through Dec. 31, 2014.
Universal Display develops OLED technologies and materials for the display and lighting industries. PPG Industries manufactures coatings and specialty products.
In other news, Universal Display has received a $999,963 Small Business Innovation Research Phase II grant from the US Department of Energy to further the performance of large-area, phosphorescent OLED (PHOLED) lighting panels through enhanced thermal management techniques. Building upon the achievements demonstrated during its previous Phase I program, Universal Display will design and build large-area white OLED lighting panels in the Phase II program using its energy-efficient UniversalPHOLED technology and materials in conjunction with thermal management techniques. The thermal management method will minimize operating temperature and extend the operating lifetime of the panels.
