SpectraFluidics Secures Contract
SpectraFluidics Inc. received a $1.3 million contract from the US Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration to develop and validate a system that detects homemade explosives. The company develops and manufactures vapor trace chemical detection technology.
The vapor-sensing system will identify explosives on passengers and in baggage, for example. The company says it will be readily integrated with imaging equipment.
SpectraFluidics’ patented technology leverages two physical principles combined into a single system: free-surface microfluidics and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy.
