Mobius Photonics Receives Patent for Fiber-based Laser System

Mobius Photonics Inc. received US Patent No. 8,009,705 for an optical fiber-based master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) system that avoids stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS), it announced Tuesday.

SBS is a spontaneous phenomenon of light scattering that occurs in optical fibers, reducing a fiber laser system’s optical power. To overcome this, Mobius developed a method that enables systems to produce high-peak-power square pulses that are efficiently converted to desired wavelengths. The invention is suitable for applications such as materials processing that demand robust fiber-based systems capable of producing high-quality, high-peak-power green or ultraviolet pulses.

Mobius Photonics produces fiber-based laser sources for solar cell and flat panel display manufacturing, materials processing, semiconductor fabrication and assembly, and superresolution microscopy applications.
