Lucent Announces 2.5-Gb/s Download
Lucent Technologies of Murray Hill, N.J., has introduced the OptiStar product line, which promises to link servers directly to optical networks. The company said the series of software and Internet Protocol network adapter cards, which will be released by the second quarter of 2000, allows service providers to integrate wide- and local-area networks with a fiber link at 2.5 Gb/s -- 50 times faster than the typical corporate network connection.
Lucent designed the OptiStar line to work with servers based on Windows NT and 2000, and Linux. The company said future releases will be compatible with other operating systems.
