Zecotek Photonics Inc.

Photonics technologies developer !%Zecotek Photonics Inc.%! of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, has announced that its subsidiary, Zecotek Imaging Systems Pte Ltd. of Singapore, has started legal action in US Federal District Court in Los Angeles against Saint-Gobain Corp. of Courbevoie, France, and Philips of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, for infringement of Zecotek’s US Patent No. 7,132,060. The patent covers substances and chemical formulations used to grow lutetium, the fine silicate scintillation crystals used in medical scanning devices. The lawsuit alleges that Saint-Gobain’s LYSO crystals infringe Zecotek’s patent, and that Philips infringes by using those crystals in the PET scanners it sells.
