Nortel Networks Wins Second Contractfor Chinese Optical Network
BEIJING, Nov. 9 -- Nortel Networks has been awarded a contract by the Chongqing Post and Telecommunications Administration to implement China's second 10-Gb/s optical network. The company said that the new network will feature a simpler configuration and improved reliability over the existing 2.5-Gb/s network, and will have 30 percent of its capacity reserved for future expansion. Nortel installed the country's first 10-Gb/s network, which connects Shanghai and Nanjing, in July 1999.
