Zecotek Granted US Patent Allowance for 3-D Display System

Zecotek Photonics Inc. announced that it has received a Notice of Allowance from the US Patent Office to cover its 3-D/2-D switchable optical imaging system for its glasses-free 3-D autostereoscopic display system. This notice adds to the other global patents the company has received as it moves to fully commercialize its 3-D technology.

The patent allowance follows the recently announced European and Eurasian patent allowances covering the optical imaging system for Zecotek’s real-time 3-D display. The switchable optical system further improves the core capabilities of the 3-D display technology by introducing a software-selectable full-resolution 2-D mode with viewing angles and dynamic range/color depth on par with conventional 2-D displays.

The patent covers technology for both 3- and 2-D modes, dynamic adjustment of viewing angle, and number and width of viewing zones as well as the functionality to dynamically control the positioning of different viewing zones.

The improved 3-D display system provides comfortable conditions for viewing a volumetric representation without eyestrain and does not require the use of any supplementary means, such as glasses. It also does not drastically limit the position of the viewer with respect to the display, and allows simultaneous viewing of the 3-D display by many viewers from a sufficiently wide field of view.

“Patents are playing a strategic role in the current economy, and global protection of our intellectual property is of critical importance as we look to fully commercialize our glasses-free 3-D autostereoscopic display with a strategic partner,” said Dr. A.F. Zerrouk, chairman, president and CEO. “Our 3-D display system technology has significant competitive advantages compared to competing systems, and we will continue our vigorous pursuit of patents to protect the underlying technology in important jurisdictions.”

The company has now received patents for the system in the US, Europe, Russia and Australia. Patents have been filed and are pending in Japan, China, Korea and India.
