Lucent to Build Backbone of BT's Terabit Network
LONDON, Nov. 15 -- Lucent Technologies has been selected by British Telecom to build an optical network in the UK that will serve as the backbone of BT's next-generation Global Transport Network, the UK's first commercial terabit network. The parties expect to finalize an agreement in early December.
The letter of award calls for Lucent to provide BT with its WaveStar optical networking solutions, including Lucent's dense WDM systems. The Global Transport Network was designed to enable BT to carry incoming and outgoing capacity from its UK-terminated undersea cable network.
