Birmingham Science Park Expands Photonics Team

Paul Williams has been appointed business development manager of Birmingham Science Park, a wholly owned organization of the Birmingham City Council.

A 23-year veteran of the lighting industry, he will be based at the Park’s Optical Performance Centre, an accredited test and measurement laboratory that specializes in optical performance of new lighting and photonics technologies.

Williams began his career as a lab technician and spent five years working with local authority and government bodies promoting energy-saving road- and streetlighting. He later worked with two startups to promote low-cost, energy-saving LED downlighters.

He will help promote the Science Park’s 9th annual euroLED conference, gala dinner and exhibition to be held June 13-14 at the NEC (National Exhibition Centre). In addition, he will coordinate and promote technical training programs and seminars for the lighting industry and will market specialist software to assist companies with the understanding of optical hazards of light sources, such as lasers, LEDs, flashlamps and other lighting products.

Established in 1982, Birmingham Science Park actively works with and brings together public and private sectors to create interfaces for people with ideas, technologies, expertise, experience and money to drive collaboration and innovation.
