LLNL Awards Contract for NIF Motion Controllers
BOULDER, Colo., Nov. 23 -- Pro-Dex Inc. announced that its subsidiary, Oregon Micro Systems Inc., has won a contract to supply precision motion controllers to the US Department of Energy's Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for use in the National Ignition Facility (NIF) laser project. The contract is valued at $1 million, with delivery of the controllers to begin immediately and continue through March 2000.
The NIF laser will consist of up to 192 laser beams able to be focused simultaneously onto a capsule containing fusion fuel. To date Oregon Micro Systems' motion control products have been employed largely in the semiconductor industry; recent R&D efforts have emphasized new products with broader applications.
