Gigaphoton’s Taiwan Unit Opens
Gigaphoton Taiwan Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Gigaphoton Inc., commenced business operations July 1.
Through the new business unit, the light source manufacturer aims to further business expansion and to reinforce its local technical support system for existing Taiwanese customers of deep-ultraviolet lasers for semiconductor lithography systems.
The company previously operated its excimer laser business through Ushio Taiwan Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Ushio Inc., which acted as its sales representative. However, after Komatsu purchased 50 percent of Gigaphoton’s shares owned by Ushio in May 2011, the company began taking over its business in Taiwan.
To continue this process, the company founded a wholly owned Taiwanese subsidiary last October and proceeded with business transfer. The completed transfer enabled the new unit to begin operations.
In May, Gigaphoton started a wholly owned Korean subsidiary. The launch of Gigaphoton Taiwan completes the formation of a network of Gigaphoton wholly owned subsidiaries in all the world's major semiconductor manufacturing bases, including the US and Europe, the company said. This will allow the Gigaphoton Group to further reinforce its global support system and ensure the advancement of its business strategy.
