Flir Nabs $88M Army Sensor Contract

Flir Systems Inc. will produce domestic response capability (DRC) kits under a US Army contract valued at up to $88.3 million, the sensor system manufacturer announced Wednesday.

Under the three-year contract, Flir will develop the DRC kits, an integrated suite of advanced sensors and support equipment for detecting and decontaminating chemical warfare agents and threats for use by National Guard Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support teams. The Army has placed an initial $26.9 million order, which is expected to be completed by December 2013.

Production of the kits will be performed at Flir’s Elkridge, Md., facility, and will utilize sensors from several of the company’s operations.

Flir also announced last week that it has agreed to acquire video surveillance system provider Lorex Technology Inc. in a cash deal worth about $60 million. The acquisition is expected to close later this year.
