Konica Minolta Acquires Instrument Systems

Konica Minolta Optics Inc. (KMOP), the optical business unit of Japan-based Konica Minolta Group, has acquired Instrument Systems GmbH, a German lighting-measurement equipment manufacturer.

Instrument Systems provides spectrometers, imaging photometers and colorimeters as well as LED test and measurement solutions ranging from quantum cascade and laboratory applications to fast LED production testing.

The acquisition provides KMOP with a broader range of display measurement products and further maintains its position in comprehensive light source measurement, KMOP said. Instrument Systems will now operate as a consolidated subsidiary of KMOP, maintaining its development, production and sales functions in Munich and Berlin. It will continue to use its product brand.

Konica Minolta Group reorganized its optical businesses in April 2012 with the aim of transforming them from suppliers of parts and components to limited industrial sectors such as the digital consumer electronics and personal computer markets, into a group of business units that focus on markets with future growth potential. This shift will provide a more stable business organization with higher profitability, the company said.
