Emcore Gets Export License, Ships Solar Cells

SOMERSET, N.J., Dec. 2 -- Emcore Corp. has received an export license from the US State Department that will allow the company to export up to 300,000 high-efficiency solar cells for panel lay-down in Japan and shipment back to the US. Emcore has made initial shipments under previous export licenses; however, the new license will enable the company to fill the commercial volumes required under its long-term supply agreement with Space Systems Loral. Emcore has also entered into a technical assistance agreement with Loral and with Mitsubishi Electric Corp.
Emcore expects to start shipping cells this month, with the majority of shipments scheduled for the second fiscal quarter ending March 31, 2000.
