Shasta Crystals to Research YAG Fibers

Shasta Crystals has received a National Science Foundation Phase I grant to perform research into the feasibility of growing doped YAG fibers for improved high-power fiber laser performance.

The $150,000 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) award, titled “Coilable Single Crystal Fibers of Doped YAG for High Power Laser Applications,” will be used to make a cladded flexible fiber with a core of dopant that will exhibit good waveguiding properties, said CEO Gisele Maxwell.

The grant comes just a month after the crystal growth company relocated its operations from Anderson, Calif., to San Francisco. (See: Shasta Crystals Relocates to San Francisco)
