Thermo Fisher Acquires picoSpin
Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. has completed the acquisition of picoSpin LLC, the Boulder, Colo., company that developed picoSpin-45, the world’s first nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer.
The spectrometer provides the functionality of a full-size unit in a shoebox-size design and is 70 times smaller than other products of its type. It is suitable for academic, industrial and research applications.
The acquisition will expand Thermo Fisher’s array of analytical tools available to undergraduate and graduate chemistry laboratories as well as to analytical quality assurance and quality control laboratories in the pharmaceutical industry. It also will enable an even broader suite of chemical analysis, said John Sos, vice president and general manager for molecular spectroscopy at Thermo Fisher.
Thermo Fisher plans to integrate picoSpin into its chemical analysis business within the Analytical Technologies Segment. It does not expect the transaction to have a material impact on its 2012 results.
