Oak Industries' Lasertron Wins DFB Laser Contract
WALTHAM, Mass., Dec. 15 -- Oak Industries Inc. reported that its Lasertron Inc. division has signed a two-year, multi-million dollar contract to serve as the majority supplier of distributed feedback (DFB) lasers for the metropolitan wavelength-division multiplexing transmission system of an unnamed telecommunications equipment provider. According to Oak Industries' estimate, revenue from the contract could reach as high as $50 million.
Lasertron is proud to have secured a long-term agreement to supply the majority of this customer's DFB laser requirements through 2001, said David Nislick, Lasertron's vice president of marketing. The contract follows Lasertron's October announcement that it had secured a lease on 30,000 square feet and received board approval for a $10 million investment proposal to expand the company's manufacturing capacity for DFB transmission lasers.
