Shutterfly to license Kodak imaging patents
Digital photo product and service provider Shutterfly Inc. of Redwood City, Calif., has agreed to license 1100 Kodak imaging patents and other patents that Kodak is keeping as part of its ongoing business. Shutterfly partnered with a consortium of global technology firms to determine an agreement that supports all parties involved and will “continue to invest in its intellectual property portfolio through licensing and internal innovation, which includes 55 patents granted and more than 50 patent applications in the US and abroad,” said Jeffrey Housenbold, Shutterfly president and chief executive.
The proposed deal also dismisses current patent-related litigation between Shutterfly and Kodak, which sold its online photo services to the digital retailer in March 2012. The company filed a motion to auction its digital patents last June.
