Among the five winners of Lockheed Martin’s Innovate the Future challenge are James Mutitu, who achieved second place for his idea for enhancing solar cell efficiency through improved light-trapping techniques, and Tamara Monti, who secured a third-place prize for her novel concept of using photonic sensors to detect tumors in the body and to identify the body’s response to cancer therapy.




Thomas C. Leonard has been appointed chief accounting officer and chief financial officer of Dynasil Corp. of America of Watertown, Mass. Previously, he served as chief financial officer at Pennichuck Corp. of Nashua, N.H., for four years.





Patent and licensing veteran Bernard J. “Barney” Cassidy has succeeded Richard Chernicoff as president of Tessera Intellectual Property Corp., a division of Tessera Technologies Inc. of San Jose, Calif. Cassidy joined Tessera Technologies in 2008 as its general counsel and will continue in that role.






JDSU of Milpitas, Calif., has named Susan Spradley as senior vice president and general manager of its Communications Test and Measurement (CommTest) business segment; Rex Jackson will be the company’s executive vice president and chief financial officer.







Optical fiber manufacturer Fiberguide Industries Inc. of Stirling, N.J., has named Ronald M. Kramer as business development manager for the eastern US and Canada. Most recently, Kramer was director of global business development in optics, mechanics and electronics for Remark Global Solutions of Rochester, N.Y.







Medical device maker Infraredx Inc. of Burlington, Mass., has appointed Michael Guarasci as chief financial officer. Guarasci has more than 25 years of experience in financial operations and investment management.






Edmund Optics of Barrington, N.J., has promoted Samuel Sadoulet to the position of chief operating officer. He will assume responsibility for corporate technology, global engineering and manufacturing operations. To accommodate its new global manufacturing, customer support and distribution facility in Singapore, the company has appointed Francis Ang as senior director of global manufacturing. Vincent Thong was promoted to the position of managing director for Edmund Optics Singapore, and Timothy Paul Kennedy is now sales director of Asia, based out of Japan.
