Four Companies Vie for UKIVA Vision Award

Autocoding Systems, Olmec-UK, Scandinavian MV and Stemmer Imaging have been selected as finalists for the UK Industrial Vision Association's (UKIVA) Most Innovative Machine Vision Project award.

The award, now in its second year, is part of the Processing & Packaging Manufacturing Association (PPMA) Group Awards and recognizes the most innovative vision system installed between January 2012 and June 2013.

Autocoding Systems, working with Dairy Crest, updated a vision application that analyzes and identifies vacuum failures on sealed packs of 20-kg blocks of cheese. Olmec-UK developed a vision system that can locate and measure laser-machined 30- to 120-µm-diameter holes in packaging film moving at 350 m/min. Scandinavian MV's submission was for automotive valve seat inspection, replacing manual microscopic inspection with a fully automated vision system.

Stemmer Imaging was nominated for its work developing a system for the C-Cell bread and baked product quality assessment system. C-Cell measures up to 48 parameters in sandwich bread, including slice height, number of cells and coarse/fine clustering, for quality assessment.

The winner will be announced at the Total Processing & Packaging Show during the PPMA gala dinner awards at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham on Tuesday, June 4, 2013.
