Zecotek to Collaborate on Photonics IP
Zecotek Photonics Inc. and Intellectual Ventures of Bellevue, Wash., have entered into a collaboration agreement to develop photonics intellectual property strategies.
Intellectual Ventures, one of the largest owners of US patents, will aid Zecotek in the creation of a portfolio of photonics-related inventions and patents aimed at advancing products such as positron emission tomography (PET) MRI imaging systems for medical and industrial systems use, said Chris Alliegro, executive vice president and managing director of the Invention Development Fund at Intellectual Ventures.
The agreement also provides Zecotek with the opportunity to license IP and technologies from the Intellectual Venture’s Development Fund photonics portfolio and its network of more than 4000 inventors — including individual inventors and inventors from government labs, research institutions, corporations and universities.
As part of the terms of the agreement, Intellectual Ventures will have the first right of refusal to purchase any inventions or patents Zecotek may choose to divest. Zecotek plans to issue shares for services to Intellectual Ventures in exchange for the provisions included in the joint agreement. Contract provisions and share issuances are subject to approval by the TSX Venture Exchange and compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
