Pegasus Explores Next-Generation Internet

A two-year, $7.5 million contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency will fund research into three key technologies for the next-generation Internet. The research consortium, called Pegasus, includes Drexel University, the University of Pennsylvania, City College of New York, Princeton University, MCP Hahnemann University, Lucent Technologies and Bell Atlantic.

Drexel, the University of Pennsylvania, City College and Bell Atlantic will investigate new architecture solutions to ensure security and manage congestion. Lucent, Drexel and Princeton will build all-optical devices, including a 5-Tb/s packet switch. Drexel, the University of Pennsylvania and MCP Hahnemann will demonstrate bioinformatic applications of the technology with the creation of a virtual laboratory.
