3-Year Project for Low-Cost OLEDs Launches

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research has launched a three-year, €6.1 million (about $8 million) project to develop printable materials for low-cost OLEDs.

Conventional OLEDs are manufactured using expensive vacuum processes, but a collaboration of researchers from cynora GmbH, Novaled AG and the University of Regensburg aim to explore new functional soluble materials for inexpensive OLED production under the cyCESH project, which began June 1.

Dr. Hartmut Yersin’s group at the University of Regensburg will be responsible for material development, while researchers at cynora will handle subsequent synthesis and optimization. Novaled investigators will work to develop the application of solution-based-processed, doped transport layers.

“Our consortium strives for the overall goal of developing mass-market materials and methods for production of OLEDs,” said Dr. Thomas Baumann, managing director of cynora.
