DRS Wins Army Contracts for IR Detectors, Cooler Assemblies

PARSIPPANY, N.J., Feb. 1 -- DRS Technologies Inc. has received two US Army contracts with an estimated combined value of $8 million. The first contract, valued at $6.2 million, calls for DRS to produce additional Standard Advanced Dewar Assemblies Type II (SADA II) for use in tracking and imaging systems on a variety of platforms, including the M2A3 Bradley and the M1A2 Abrams ground vehicles. SADA II is employed in the Horizontal Technology Integration Second Generation Forward-Looking Infrared (HTI SGF) thermal imaging system, also produced by DRS.
Under the second contract, worth $1.8 million, DRS will provide additional long-life one-watt linear cooler assemblies, which are key components in the SADA II. Work for both contracts will be carried out by the company's DRS Infrared Technologies unit in Dallas, Texas.
In awarding both contracts, the US Army's Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) in Fort Monmouth, N.J., exercised options on existing multiple-year contracts. The new SADA II and long-life linear cooler contracts will extend product deliveries through July and May 2001, respectively.
