Thorlabs Adds Imaging Cytometry with Acquisition
Photonics products maker Thorlabs’ acquisition of CompuCyte Corp. will add an essential imaging complement to traditional flow cytometry techniques, the company said this week.
Founded by Dr. Louis Kamentsky, Westwood-based CompuCyte developed laser-scanning cytometry products for high-content cellular and tissue-based analysis. The technology combines the advantages of digital microscopy, image processing and cytometry to deliver an unprecedented depth of high-content analysis of adherent cells and tissue specimens, the company said. The instrumentation is used in life science research, drug safety, toxicology studies and clinical trials.
“The acquisition of the CompuCyte product lines is an important step forward for Thorlabs as it works to extend its innovative family of life science imaging products into the cytometry market,” said Jeff Brooker, general manager of Thorlabs Imaging Div.
As part of the transaction, CompuCyte staff will join Thorlabs’ sales, technical support and product development organization in Sterling, Va.
