Grant Funds Photon Control’s Raman Research

Photon Control R&D Ltd., the research and development partner of optical sensors maker Photon Control Inc., has received an Engage grant from the Natural Sciences & Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERCC) to collaborate with Dr. Alexandre G. Brolo at the University of Victoria on Raman spectroscopy research, the company announced last week.

Brolo is a specialist in nanomaterials and an authority on Raman spectroscopy, especially surface-enhanced Raman scattering.

The project will allow the companies to build on their existing spectroscopy experience with a new application, potentially leading to new technology and products, Photon Control Inc. said.

NSERCC Engage grants are intended to foster the development of research partnerships between academic researchers and companies that have never collaborated before, by supporting short-term R&D projects aimed at addressing a company-specific problem in the natural sciences or engineering.
