Newport Inks $14M Deal for Optomechanical Subsystems
Newport Corp. has signed a $14 million deal to collaborate with an OEM customer to develop optomechanical subsystems for a next-generation semiconductor equipment application, the company said Monday.
The development program with the unnamed OEM has already started, Newport said. The company is designing the subsystems with the customer and will manufacture prototypes and related equipment; it expects to deliver the first prototype units in mid-2014.
Newport President and CEO Robert J. Phillippy said the program leverages the company’s “expertise and breadth of technology in optics, photonics and lasers to develop and manufacture highly engineered solutions for our customers’ most demanding applications.”
