New Management at Leoni Fiber Optics

Leoni Fiber Optics GmbH will now be jointly managed by Dr. Michael Gawronski and Andreas Weinert, who has headed the business unit for years, the company said this week. Its management board was also recently expanded.

The Fiber Optics unit of the Leoni group manufactures fiber optics for industrial, sensor, science and communications applications as well as laser surgery. Weinert was “instrumental in the company’s strong growth and performance over the past 10 years,” Leoni said.

The new management board of Leoni Fiber Optics GmbH is (left to right) Dr. Michael Gawronski, Andreas Weinert, Sven Knuth and Dr. Bruno Uebbing.

Gawronski, who joined the company on Oct. 1, was previously executive vice president, electronic pressure measurement, for WIKA Alexander Wiegand SE & Co. KG, where he established branches in Japan, Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia. He studied physics at RWTH Aachen University and received his Ph.D. from the Forschungszentrum Jülich/RWTH Aachen.

"I am very much looking forward to working within this dynamic future market of photonic technologies, and I will also work on the further development of international business," Gawronski said. "I will in particular take over the responsibility for the technology line cable."

Also joining the business unit's management board as of Oct. 1 are Dr. Bruno Uebbing and Sven Knuth.

Uebbing, who joins Weinert and Gawronski as managing director, will lead the subsidiary j-plasma GmbH in Jena with Lothar Brehm, the company said. He previously worked at Heraeus Quarzglas and Heraeus Noblelight in various management positions. Uebbing studied physics and received his Ph.D. from the University of Dortmund and was a post-doc at Cornell University.

Knuth was appointed an authorized representative and a member of the management board. As head of Production & Technology Medical Devices, he will also be responsible for sales and distribution of medical products.

Knuth was formerly manager of the Medical Applications business unit at the Berliner Glas Group, sales director at HAL Aluminiumguss GmbH Leipzig and product manager at Jena-Optronik.
