Partnership to Advance Optical Biopsies
Medical device company Mauna Kea Technologies and Imperial College London are partnering to advance research and applications of Mauna Kea's optical biopsy platform, the partners announced recently.
Mauna Kea's Cellvizio is a probe-based confocal laser endomicroscopy system that provides physicians and researchers with high-resolution cellular views of tissue inside the body for disease detection and treatment. It has 510(k) clearance from the FDA and the European CE-Mark for use in the gastrointestinal tract, biliary and pancreatic ducts, and lungs and during fine-needle-aspiration procedures.
The collaborators will work to develop next-generation computer vision features that will provide the product with new imaging capabilities and make it completely intuitive for use by clinicians of all specialties. The work will be done in coordination with professor Guang-Zhong Yang, director of The Hamlyn Centre at Imperial College London.
“We have been using Mauna Kea Technologies' Cellvizio platform for many years and have been impressed with its vast potential for a multitude of clinical indications in endoscopy and surgery,” Yang said. “We are eager to get this project under way and believe that, together, we can continue to innovate for the benefits of patients and health care systems around the world.”
