Mordechai Segev Awarded Israel Prize

Physicist Mordechai Segev has been awarded the Israel Prize for his work in the field of optics and lasers.

Segev is a professor at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology whose research includes nonlinear optics and quantum electronics, specifically in regard to spatial solitons, nonlinear frequency conversion, nonlinear guided waves, nonlinear dynamics and photorefractive materials.

“[Segev] is a pioneering physicist in the field of optics and lasers,” the Israel Prize committee said. “His innovative contributions are a source of inspiration and his scientific work is quoted in thousands of scientific articles.”

Segev received his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Science from Technion. He spent several years as a research fellow at the California Institute of Technology and later was a professor at Princeton University. He is also a fellow of The Optical Society and the American Physical Society.
