IPG Photonics Expands Diode Laser Production
IPG Photonics is set to expand its diode laser production following the acquisition of Veeco Instruments’ molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) system.
IPG plans to use the system for high-volume manufacturing of laser diodes for fiber lasers, given the growing popularity of these lasers and their low power consumption in materials processing applications. Fiber lasers are also increasingly being used in other industries, including semiconductor processing, 3-D printing and smartphone manufacturing.
