Cambridge Student Wins Outstanding Student Paper Prize

Johannes von Lindeiner has been awarded the 2014 Corning Outstanding Student Paper Competition top prize by the OSA Foundation and Corning Inc.

A student at the University of Cambridge in England, von Lindeiner was one of six finalists selected from nearly 350 submissions. His paper, “100 Gb/s Uncooled DWDM using Orthogonal Coding for Low-cost Datacommunication Links,” was judged on innovation, research excellence and presentation.

He was recognized during the 2014 OFC Conference.

Honorable mentions were given to Shohei Beppu from Tohoku University in Japan, for “2048 QAM (66 Gbit/s) Single-Carrier Coherent Optical Transmission over 150 km with a Potential SE of 15.3 bit/s/Hz”; and Samuel Olsson from Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, for “Linear and Nonlinear Transmission of 16-QAM Over 105 km Phase-Sensitive Amplified Link.”

The top prize winner receives a $1,500 grant, while the two honorable mention winners each receive a $1,000 grant.
