American Laser Society Names New President
The American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery has named Dr. Juanita J. Anders its new president.
Under her leadership over the next year, the organization says it plans to increase interaction and cooperation of scientists, innovators and clinicians, and to strengthen ties with other national and international societies focused on lasers and other energy-based technologies.
Anders is a professor of anatomy, physiology, genetics and neuroscience at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Maryland. Author of more than 60 peer-reviewed articles, her research work specializes in peripheral and central nervous system injury, repair mechanisms and light tissue interactions, and photobiomodulation.
She has held various other positions within ASLMS since 1991, including vice president, committee chair and board member, and also serves on the executive councils and scientific advisory boards of many laser societies.
Anders is the past president of the North American Association of Light Therapy and a founding member of the International Academy of Laser Medicine and Surgery. She is a member of the editorial boards of several industry journals, as well.
