IPG acquires Veeco MBE system
of Oxford, Mass., is set to expand its diode laser production following the acquisition of Veeco Instruments’ GEN2000 production molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) system (pictured on the right). IPG plans to use the system for high-volume manufacturing of laser diodes for fiber lasers, given the popularity of the lasers and their low power consumption in materials processing applications. Fiber lasers also are increasingly being used in other industries, including semiconductor processing, 3-D printing and smartphone manufacturing.
