Metal Technology Now Using 3-D Printer
Metal Technology Inc. has purchased a direct metal sintering ProX 300 Production 3-D Printer to serve customers in the aerospace, defense and scientific industries.
The 3-D printer builds precision functional metal parts layer by layer using metal powder melted by a 500 W laser to exact geometry dictated by CAD models. Parts are built in an argon environment at elevated temperatures, resulting in high-purity, stress-relieved parts with material properties better than cast and comparable to wrought material.
Initially, Metal Technology will focus on building geometries from 17-4 stainless steel, titanium inconel and molybdenum. Future plans include testing of other alloy powders including tantalum, niobium and tungsten.
