2014 Faraday Medal Awarded to THz Researchers

Professors Giles Davies and Edmund Linfield, of the Leeds University School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, have won the 2014 Faraday Medal in recognition of nearly two decades of work on terahertz science and technology.

Terahertz applications include chemical analysis, security scanning, medical imaging and telecommunications. The professors have led in the development of quantum cascade lasers and the use of terahertz spectroscopy to characterize materials.

The Faraday Medal is awarded annually by the Institution of Engineering and Technology for outstanding contributions in experimental physics to a physicist of international reputation in any sector. The medal is accompanied by a prize of £ 1000.
