Kollmorgen to Deliver Photonic Systems to Egypt's Navy

WALTHAM, Mass., Feb. 16 -- Kollmorgen Corp. has signed a $15-million contract to provide the Egyptian Navy with submarine photonic systems, which will be retrofitted into four existing Egyptian submarines. Production of the new systems will take place at Kollmorgen's Electro-Optical Division in Northampton, Mass. and Brattleboro, Vt. The company has scheduled deliveries to begin in 2001, and expects to deliver the last systems in January 2002.
The contract, which was approved by the US government this month, is to be funded through foreign military funds. Kollmorgen is the sole designer of all operational periscopes and photonic visual systems used by the US Navy.
