Intel Silicon Photonics Group Wins OSA Award
OSA has recognized Intel Corp.’s Silicon Photonics Solutions Group with the 2014 Paul F. Forman Team Engineering Excellence Award.
The team received the award for its more than 12 years of “innovation in the research and development of a revolutionary 4 × 25G silicon photonics fully integrated optical transceiver that is designed to help change the way data centers are architected,” according to OSA.
The Silicon Photonics Solutions Group was created in 2002 to bring silicon-based optical devices into production. Since its inception, the group has created the first silicon-based optical data interconnect with integrated lasers, as well as the electrically driven hybrid silicon laser.
OSA established the annual award in 1989 in honor of Paul F. Forman, an optics innovator and co-founder of Zygo Corp. The award recognizes technical achievements such as product engineering, process, software and patent development, as well as contributions in engineering education, publication and management and furthering public appreciation of optical engineering.
