Zecotek Settles Patent Lawsuit Against Philips, Saint-Gobain

Zecotek Photonics Inc. has settled a patent lawsuit its imaging subsidiary brought against Philips and Saint-Gobain Corp. in 2012.

The suit alleged Saint-Gobain’s lutetium fine silicate (LFS) scintillation crystals infringed on Zecotek’s U.S. Patent No. 7,132,060, and that Philips infringed on the patent by using those crystals in its products. LFS crystals are characterized by their combined high light yield and ultrafast decay times and typically are used in medical scanning devices for fluoroscopy, x-ray and PET imaging.

Zecotek CEO Dr. A.F. Zerrouk said his company and Philips “have identified areas of cooperation in the field of medical imaging.”
