Driggers Chosen as Next Editor of Applied Optics

Ronald Driggers is the new editor-in-chief of Applied Optics.

Driggers is the CEO and cofounder St. Johns Optical Systems of Lake Mary, Fla., which specializes in infrared imaging.

Before starting the company in 2013, he was superintendent of the Optical Sciences Division at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory and director of the Modeling and Simulation Division at the U.S. Army’s Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate.

Driggers is a fellow of OSA and SPIE, and was editor of Optical Engineering for five years.

A past contributor to Applied Optics, Driggers becomes the seventh person to helm the journal, which is published by The Optical Society (OSA). Chief publishing officer Elizabeth Nolan said Driggers’ background in government labs, industry and publishing make him well-suited for leading the journal into the future.
