Ashgari Joins Mellanox as VP for Silicon Photonics
Mehdi Asghari has been named vice president of silicon photonics at Mellanox Technologies Ltd.
His appointment was announced with those of four others to lead the company's hardware, operations, interconnect engineering and silicon engineering divisions.
Asghari has more than 20 years of research and product development experience within the silicon photonics industry. Previously, he was chief technology officer at Kotura Inc., which was acquired by Mellanox in 2013.
Before joining Kotura, Asghari was vice president of research and development at Bookham Inc., where he was responsible for the research and development and manufacturing transfer activities behind all of Bookham's silicon-based technologies and products.
He has a doctorate in optoelectronics from the University of Bath, as well as a master's degree in optoelectronics and laser devices from Heriot-Watt and St. Andrews universities. He also has bachelor's and master's degrees in engineering from University of Cambridge.
Mellanox provides interconnects and services for computer servers and data storage.
