Laser Illuminated Projector Association Elects New Chairman, Officers
The Laser Illuminated Projector Association (LIPA) has chosen four new leaders to serve through May 2017.
Assuming the role of chairman is Jan Daem, a product safety validation engineer at Barco NV of Kortrijk, Belgium. Other new officers include Vice Chairman Michael J. Biber of Dolby Laboratories Inc. in San Francisco; Finance Chairman Greg Niven of Necsel IP Inc. in Milpitas, Calif.; and Regulatory Business Committee Chairman Dave Schnuelle, also of Dolby.
LIPA is focused on speeding the adoption of laser-illuminated projection systems across multiple venues, including theaters, theme parks, museums, planetariums, schools and business facilities. The organization is working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Center for Devices and Radiological Health to develop best practices for manufacturers and end users.
"LIPA members have devoted significant time and financial resources toward standardizing and rationalizing the regulatory and classification requirements currently existing for [laser-illuminated projection] systems," Daem said. "They have shown strong leadership in creating new safety standards and turning them into actionable advice for our customers."
