Tang to Advance Rama Label Technology at Photon Etc.

Nathalie Tang has joined the newly created nanotechnology development division, Photon Nano, at Photon Etc., where she will focus on integrating the company's hyperspectral imaging technologies with novel Raman labels.

Tang has a doctorate from Montreal University. In the course of postdoctoral research with professor Richard Martel's group, Tang contributed to the development of dyes encapsulated in carbon nanotubes that enhance Raman scattering for multispectral imaging — work described last year in Nature Photonics (doi: 10.1038/nphoton.2013.309). The technology was licensed to Photon Etc. by Univalor, a technology transfer agency affiliated with Montreal University.

"Current advances in biochemistry show that nanoparticles are ideal for a wide range of pharmaceutical and biomedical applications but still face challenges in terms of efficiency and reliability," said Photon Etc. President and CEO Sébastien Blais-Ouellette. "The next generation of markers needs to address multiplexing challenges and the fragility of current fluorescent dyes. Photon Nano, with the help of Nathalie Tang, will answer these issues through the commercialization of Raman labels, the next generation of biological tags."

Photon Etc. offers spectral imaging and optical sensing technologies for scientific and industrial applications.
