ESI, TZI Partner for Microchip Testing

Electro Scientific Industries Inc. (ESI), a developer of laser-based micromachining equipment, has partnered with Tian Zheng Precision Machinery Co. Ltd. (TZI) to design and manufacture a set of multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) testing solutions for the large-chip testing market.

The new platform will offer a low-cost solution for manufacturers that process 0402 (m1005) and larger MLCCs. It will incorporate ESI's handling and contacting technology and will be built by TZI. LaserTek Taiwan Co. Ltd. will sell and service the devices using Chinese, Taiwanese and other distribution channels.

"Manufacturing this product locally, using TZI's expertise and focus on quality, not only extends our production capabilities, but also provides ESI with a strong offering to the MLCC market in Asia," said William Wan, CEO of TZI.

"We’re excited to offer a solution that incorporates ESI's rotary testing technology at a lower price point," said LaserTek Chairman and CEO Gary Cheng. "This is a good fit with our strategy of providing customers with a one-stop shopping experience."

ESI provides integrated laser solutions for industrial designers and process engineers in the micromachining, consumer electronics, wearable devices, semiconductor circuit and precision component industries.

TZI is a manufacturer of tape and reel machines for passive components and LED testers. It also provides machine integration for factory automation.
