"We know that innovations are crucial for defending our position as a supplier of state-of-the-art optical sensor technology," said CEO Clemens Gasser. "This is why we are strongly committed to R&D and willing to align our entire organization accordingly."

The company has established three new departments: Software Development, Test and Quality Management, and Technology Management. The latter department will evaluate new technologies and create the company's product road map.

Meanwhile, Nextsense has adopted the principle of matrix organization, which it said will foster interactions across departments and enhance interdisciplinary efforts. This will allow aspects of market competitiveness to be transferred more effectively to R&D.

A spinoff of the the Joanneum Research institute, Nextsense employs about 50 people. The company provides laser-based profile measurement devices and surface inspection facilities for industries including railway, automotive and steel.
