Merck, Tridonic Enter White LED Agreement
Merck KGaA has entered into a license agreement with Tridonic Jennersdorf GmbH for silicate phosphors used in white LEDs.
Tridonic holds patents relating to a white-light-generating technology using blue LEDs and novel yellow silicate phosphors. When applied to blue LED chips, the silicate phosphors enable the manufacture of packaged white LEDs with high accuracy and high brightness. Primary applications include backlights for cellphones, laptops, GPS devices and other small displays.
The material license granted to Merck covers the manufacture and marketing of silicate phosphor materials for use in white-light LEDs.
Merck develops products for the biopharmaceutical, consumer health, allergopharma, biosimilar, life science and performance material industries. Tridonic manufactures indoor and outdoor lighting for the retail, office and industrial fields.
