Following Bankruptcy Application, Alphaform to be Acquired by Proto Labs
Proto Labs Inc., a provider of additive manufacturing, CNC machining and injection molding services, has agreed to acquire certain assets and operations of Alphaform AG, a German laser additive manufacturing company.
This acquisition follows Alphaform’s July application for the opening of bankruptcy proceedings, and includes Alphaform divisions in Germany, Finland and England. The company cited impending insolvency as grounds for its debt proceedings.
Proto Labs said the move will expand its additive manufacturing capabilities in Europe by adding selective laser sintering, direct metal laser sintering and additional stereolithography processes to its business.
"With those three complementary offerings, we're uniquely positioned to help designers and engineers take a product from the initial stages of prototyping through low-volume production," said Vicki Holt, president and CEO of Proto Labs.
The transaction also includes the acquisition of Alphaform Claho GmbH's injection mold services. The deal is expected to be completed in October.
